During the 5.25" floppy disks test for my Amstrad PC1640DD software collection I came across the need for cleaning (more than once) the read heads of my Mitsumi 1.2MB drive.
This proved to be a simple task. I only had to remove two screws to get to the read heads of the drive. They secured the lid covering the top of the drive chassis. A cotton swab dipped in alcohol removed lots of dirt from the heads (which appear to be porcelain or some similar material). Once this was done the unit started working correctly and succesfully read the disks, exception made to the 205 floppy disks sent to the trash dumpster.
Durante o trabalho de levantamento das disquetes de 5.25" da minha colecção de software para o Amstrad PC1640DD que tinha guardadas no sótão há cerca de 10 anos deparei-me com a necessidade de limpar (mais do que uma vez) as cabeças de leitura da minha drive Mitsumi de 1.2MB.
Este revelou ser um trabalho bem simples. Para chegar às cabeças de leitura da unidade bastou remover dois parafusos que fixam a tampa que cobre o superior da drive ao chassis. Um cotonete embebido em álcool removeu bastante sujidade das cabeças (que parecem ser de porcelana ou algum material parecido). Depois de efectuado este trabalho a unidade passou a ler correctamente as disquetes, excepção feita, obviamente, às 205 disquetes que mandei para o contentor do lixo.
